I looked over at my man Juvie, and this nigga was cool as fuck after just murdering a nigga who was our homeboy, who just made what sounded like a bunch of stupid mistakes. The nigga was eating like he didn’t have a care in the world after putting a bullet in between his boy’s eyes.

I swear ever since this nigga came back from the military, his ass could be so cold blooded that sometimes I looked at my man sideways. Juvie, before being a counter-intelligence agent in the military, could never do no shit like that to Drama. Shit, we were boys. No, fuck that we were Family! We didn’t let no muthafuckas come between us three. As I sat here watching him eat, I wondered if that was the real reason Juvie was so pissed about Drama. Juvie took loyalty to a whole new level, and if you were lucky enough to be his friend, then the man would ride and die for you until the end, but if your ass was disloyal to him, then you was as good as dead. Those that were able to get close enough to this man to be considered a friend, that man would do anything for them and then some. I mean, the man used to sneak me in his house and give his whole plate of food to me when I ain’t have nothing to eat after my moms got hooked on that shit so bad when we were kids.

One year for Christmas, when Juvie was about eight, his parents’ bought him a new pair of Jordan’s that Juvie had been bragging about getting for weeks. When he got the new shoes, he couldn’t stop talking about how he was going to go back to school and stunt on them hoes flossing. However, when I came over to his house Christmas day to get something to eat with him and his family, Juvie took one look at the busted sneakers that I had on my feet with the hole in the soles and gave me his Christmas gift, stating that I needed them more than he did. I tried my damndest not to take them, because I knew just how much he had wanted them sneakers, but the nigga just flat out refused to listen to me. When school went back after winter break, Juvie walked in the school proudly wearing his same old ass kicks, while he let me wear his brand new Jordan’s. Everyone clowned him for not getting the sneakers he had bragged so much about. When Pops and his moms found out that Juvie gave his sneakers away to a kid from the neighborhood, at first they were furious, but after seeing the condition that my sneakers were in, Pops told Juvie that only real men can put aside their own selfish gains for someone else. He worked double shifts straight for two months to make some extra money to by Juvie another pair of Jordan’s.
